Abstract

The paper presents a rational design, simulates, and evaluates the performance of a high-frequency cavity-backed patch antenna specifically formulated to operate in the next-generation 5G wireless communications system. The antenna structure is undertaken to achieve an inbuilt structural compact design as well as the electromagnetic compact design with a balanced radiating patch of precise symmetrical design that integrates the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity, hence rendering the structure of the antenna very effective in its functioning. This is built with an architecture of five stacking layers comprising two substrate layers as well as an SIW feed arrangement of lines that are significantly located in a proper position to provide an excellent impedance match effect. The specified antenna is very robust in its operation across the frequency range of 26 GHz to 32 GHz, and its optimum resonance frequency resides at 28 GHz; that is in line with the international assigned mmWave bands to be used in 5G. The electromagnetic analysis also reveals a high return loss value of -54.129dB and a bandwidth of 3.3989 GHz, with minimal signal loss and an increase in data rate, as confirmed by full-wave electromagnetic simulation. The design antenna achieves a simulated directivity of 7.703 dBi at 28 GHz with radiation efficiency of -1.082 dBi (78%) and total efficiency of -1.083 dBi (78%), indicating minimal ohmic and mismatch losses across the operational bandwidth. Compared to existing counterparts, the proposed antenna exhibits a compact and cost-effective design while supporting wideband operation, enhanced radiation characteristics across a broad spectrum, and a high level of integration. The suggested antenna is a suitable choice for base stations and user equipment in the new-generation 5G communication network due to its low-profile design, high-frequency selectivity, and matching circuit technologies incorporated into the planar design. Its manufacture and its work enhance its capacity to commercially and industrially invade the mushrooming ultra-fast mobile connection world.
