Abstract

The article is a comprehensive interdisciplinary study of cybertheft as a key criminal challenge in the era of digital transformation. The author not only reveals the concept of remote theft as a combination of theft and fraud committed using ICT, but also clearly demarcates them from related crimes. The empirical basis of the work consists of official statistics and a representative sample of court decisions, which revealed alarming criminological trends: a rapid 73 % increase in incidents in 2023 and exceeding the threshold of 765,000 registered cases in 2024. The study proposed an original taxonomy of cybertheft, including three typologically pure types: 1) theft with unlawful access to computer information; 2) combined theft, synthesizing the impact on the victim and technical means; 3) theft based solely on methods of social engineering. Structural analysis confirms the dominance of fraudulent schemes (55 %) and direct thefts from bank accounts (40 %). Of particular scientific novelty is the identification of specific criminalistic features of modern cyber theft: the exploitation of legal payment infrastructures, the decentralized network nature of organized groups, the criminal targeting of victims based on OSINT analysis, and the high lability of patterns of illegal behavior. The practical significance of the article lies in the development of scientifically based victimological prevention measures aimed at improving the digital literacy of the population and the resilience of financial systems to cyber threats.
