Abstract
The growing relevance of the issues of sustainability and industrial safety of regions has become a response to current macroeconomic challenges and conditions of turbulence. A more complex and diversified economy, capable of compensating for the negative impacts on individual sectors through the development of alternative economic activities, is a factor in strengthening sustainability. The article presents an assessment of the technological connectivity of the industrial regions of Russia. Sectoral connectivity is considered as an indicator of the potential for diversification of the regional economy: the closer the connectivity between two types of activities, the higher the probability of their joint functioning within a region. The methodological basis of the study includes a coefficient analysis and an assessment of connectivity based on the coefficients of localization of employees. The information base was formed according to the EMISS data in the context of 29 industrial regions and 28 types of economic activity. Systematization of the parameters of industrial regions allowed us to identify 4 groups depending on the type of specialization: monospecialized in mining, production of petroleum products, metallurgy, and polyspecialized. The assessment of connectivity indices made it possible to obtain aggregated characteristics of the profile of the regions of each group from the perspective of efficiency and diversification of the industrial sector, as well as to identify potential branches of specialization based on connectedness. The results of the study can be used to clarify the strategic priorities of regional industrial policy.
