INTRAPRENEURSHIP, USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, AND INNOVATIVE WORK BEHAVIOR: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF SELF-EFFICACY AMONG CORPORATE EMPLOYEES IN METRO MANILA
Abstract
This study examined the relationships among intrapreneurship, use of artificial intelligence (AI), self-efficacy, and innovative work behavior (IWB) among full-time employees in Metro Manila. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional design and cluster sampling across sixteen cities, data were collected from 432 respondents who used work-related AI tools at least weekly. Standardized survey instruments measured intrapreneurship (innovation, risk propensity, competitive energy, proactivity, and autonomy), AI use, self-efficacy, and IWB. Pearson correlations indicated significant positive associations among the variables, with the strongest relationship observed between self-efficacy and IWB. Regression analyses showed that intrapreneurship, AI use, and self-efficacy significantly predicted IWB, while intrapreneurship and AI use significantly predicted self-efficacy. Multiple regression results further indicated that intrapreneurship and AI use jointly predicted meaningful variance in self-efficacy and IWB. Mediation analysis revealed that self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between intrapreneurship and IWB, while fully mediating the relationship between AI use and IWB. These findings suggest that innovation in AI-enabled workplaces depends not only on organizational entrepreneurial practices and access to AI tools but also on employees’ confidence in their capability to use these resources effectively. The study highlights self-efficacy as a key psychological mechanism through which intrapreneurship and AI use translate into innovative work behavior in the Metro Manila context.
