Digital twin models for HV circuit breaker operating mechanism condition assessment
Abstract
A physics-based digital twin model of a high voltage circuit breaker operated by a spring-based operating mechanism is proposed with focus on its condition assessment and prognostics for remaining useful life estimation. The model includes minimal sub-models for the relevant components, such as the mechanical actuator (trip coil) and operating mechanism, as well as some special physical phenomena involved, like the switching arc and vibrations generated during the device operation. The developed physical models used in combination with asset monitoring data can give indications on degradation of the circuit breaker operating mechanism components, supporting maintenance decisions.
