Measurement Uncertainties of the T‑Connector and S‑Parameter Methods of Measuring the Voltage Division Factor of a LISN
Abstract
In the first article of this three-part series, we presented a method of measuring the voltage division factor of a line impedance stabilization network (LISN) based on the forward vector S-parameters of the LISN as an alternative to the current method using a three-port coaxial T-connector and we demonstrated the equivalence of the methods. In the second article, we derived models to calculate the errors due to the adapters needed to perform the measurement using either method, presented measurement-based models of the input adapter, and analyzed a significant phase-to-amplitude conversion error mechanism. In this third article, we derive complete model equations based on actual, non-ideal instrumentation, apply suitable methodologies for evaluating measurement uncertainty, and compare the methods. We show that the S-parameter method is superior regarding accuracy and measurement uncertainty.
