AquaSense: An IoT-Based Smart System for Automated Feeding, Water Quality Monitoring, and Aeration in Fishponds
Abstract
Tilapia pond farming relies on a number of outside circumstances such as water temperature, hygiene, oxygen supply, and the avoidance of sediment accumulation on inlet screens. Traditional pond management can involve a lot of manual work and can be less than optimal, making it hard to achieve optimum growing conditions for fish. To rectify these problems, this research created a sensor-based smart aquaculture system that automates feeding and tracks important water quality parameters like temperature and dissolved oxygen. The feeding process is synchronized using the Network Time Protocol (NTP) to provide precise, timed intervals without the need for manual control. The system features temperature and dissolved oxygen sensors, a microcontroller, aerator pumps, and feeders, all programmed using the Arduino IDE. Development was incremental and assessed using the V-Model through unit, integration, and system testing. Tests indicate that the prototype worked well, and there were optimal water conditions with precise measures and consistent feedings. This method presents a more sustainable and effective way of traditional fishpond management, and it decreases labor requirements while ensuring healthier and more productive tilapia culture.
