Smart Biosafety Laboratory Precaution Monitoring System Using IoT
Abstract
Laboratory environments demand strict adherence to biosafety standards due to the continuous handling of hazardous chemicals, biological samples, volatile gases, and sensitive experimental equipment. Conventional laboratory safety practices are largely dependent on manual supervision, log maintenance, and periodic inspections, which are inherently limited in their ability to provide continuous monitoring and rapid response. This paper presents a comprehensive Internet of Things (IoT) based Smart Biosafety Laboratory Precaution Monitoring System that enables uninterrupted monitoring of critical environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and air quality. The system employs low-cost environmental sensors interfaced with an ESP32 microcontroller to acquire real-time data, which is transmitted to a cloud platform for visualization, storage, and remote supervision. In the presence of unsafe environmental conditions, the system generates immediate alerts through both local indicators and cloud-based notifications. The proposed solution aims to reduce human dependency, enhance laboratory safety compliance, and provide a scalable and cost-effective framework suitable for educational, medical, and research laboratories.
