Optimizing State Preservation and Security in Android Applications
Abstract
Modern Android applications must preserve UI and application state across configuration changes, backgrounding, and process restarts while protecting sensitive authentication tokens and private data. This paper proposes a layered architecture combining lifecycle-aware state management (ViewModel, Saved-StateHandle, state hoisting) with platform-backed cryptographic storage (Android Keystore, EncryptedSharedPreferences) and cloud authentication (Firebase Auth). We implement a reference prototype (Event Notifier) and present an empirical evaluation (reliability, latency, developer usability) and a security analysis. Prototype-based experimental evaluation was conducted.
