Combating receiver blinding due to high-power Interferers
Abstract
5G/6G base stations face risks from in-band or near-band interferers, causing (a) Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) desensitization via gain compression and noise figure increase, (b) Radio Frequency (RF) chain inter-modulation, and (c) Analogto-Digital converter (ADC) saturation, degrading Error vector magnitude (EVM) and Block error rate (BLER). This paper introduces a low-latency analog spatial filtering stage before the ADC, guided by simple observables like per-element or sub-array power from LNA envelope/Root Mean Squared (RMS) detectors. Simulations confirm 15-20 dB post-LNA noise floor reduction and restored EVM for 64-QAM, even under conditions where conventional receivers suffer complete signal degradation.
