The Artificial Intelligence(AI) Enabled Governance Framework for NIRF Ranking Improvement of Higher Education Institutions

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has emerged as the most influential mechanism for assessing and benchmarking higher education institutions in India. Achieving sustained improvement in NIRF rankings requires continuous excellence across teaching, research, student outcomes, inclusivity, and institutional reputation. Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides powerful tools for data-driven governance, predictive analytics, and performance optimization aligned with NIRF metrics. This paper examines the strategic role of AI in improving NIRF rankings by mapping AI applications to each NIRF parameter. It further proposes an AI-enabled governance framework that transforms ranking exercises from periodic reporting activities into continuous institutional performance management systems. The Universities can significantly leverage AI for enhancing their NIRF Ranking through the AI Framework proposed in this paper. The proposed AI framework enforces rational, datadriven institutional decision-making by continuously optimizing performance indicators aligned with NIRF ranking parameters.
