Stochastic PDE Approach to Rough Surface Representation in Electromagnetic Scattering Modeling
Abstract
A stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE)-based approach is presented for modeling spatially correlated surface irregularities in electromagnetic scattering problems. The method generates Matérn-type random fields with controllable correlation length and smoothness, which are subsequently used to perturb arbitrary scatterer boundaries. The perturbed geometries are incorporated into the electric field integral equation (EFIE) and solved using the method of moments (MoM) for TM-polarized incidence on infinitely long cylinders. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed approach accurately reproduces Matérn-type spatial correlations while enabling precise computation of bistatic scattering cross sections.
