Abstract

The problem that is being discussed in this paper is the long-standing frustration of medical imaging, the inability of traditional microwave sensors to differentiate between normal tissue and the existence of small, 2mm, malignant tumors. Although microwave imaging is non-hazardous and portable, the signal-to-clutter ratio is typically less than desirable to provide reliable early-stage imaging. Our solution is a hybrid one in which Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) center quantum sensors would be embedded on a flexible 2.45 GHz antenna array. Through the change of the detection mechanism of classical electron flow to quantum spin states, we can overcome the thermal noise that tends to conceal early tumors. The results of our simulation indicate that the sensitivity has been greatly improved by 12 dB SNR, compared to the traditional approaches. The article proposes a way towards wearable high-precision diagnostic devices that would help diagnose cancer much earlier than it appears on a regular scan.
