PRIORITY DIRECTIONS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHERS’ MORAL AND ETHICAL CULTURE
Abstract
The article provides a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the problem of developing the moral and ethical culture of a teacher as one of the key components of professional competence and an essential condition for ensuring the quality of modern education. The relevance of the study is determined by transformational processes in Ukrainian society, the reform of the education system, the establishment of a humanistic paradigm of teaching and upbringing, as well as the growing social demand for a teacher capable of being a bearer of high moral values, spiritual ideals, and ethical norms of professional activity. The article substantiates that the moral and ethical culture of a teacher is an integrative personal and professional construct that combines a system of moral knowledge, value orientations, beliefs, ethical norms of behavior, professional responsibility, and the ability for reflection and self-improvement. It determines the nature of pedagogical interaction, the style of communication with students, parents, and colleagues, influences the moral and psychological climate of the educational environment, and contributes to the formation of learners’ personalities. In the course of the study, the scientific approaches of Ukrainian scholars to understanding the essence of teachers’ moral and ethical culture, its structure, and its functions in professional activity are analyzed. It is revealed that modern scientific concepts consider moral and ethical culture not only as an individual characteristic of a teacher but also as a result of the influence of the educational environment, the content of professional training, pedagogical practice, institutional corporate ethics, and prevailing social moral values. As a result of the research, priority directions for the development of the moral and ethical culture of teachers are identified and substantiated. These include: the humanistic and value-oriented focus of pedagogical activity; the integration of moral and ethical content into the system of professional training of future teachers; the formation of ethical competence, moral choice, and reflective abilities; practice-oriented development of moral qualities through pedagogical practice and mentoring; the establishment of principles of academic integrity and professional ethics within the educational environment; stimulation of continuous professional self-development of teachers; and the development of partnership interaction with parents and the community in fostering moral values.
