Abstract

Solid waste represents one of the main environmental challenges for municipalities. In this sense, this study analyzed the management of solid waste in Brazil, addressing its classification, treatment and final disposal, with an emphasis on legislation and public policies aimed at sustainability. The methodology adopted includes a bibliographic review of scientific articles, technical standards, laws and resolutions, evaluating the advances in the eradication of landfills, reverse logistics, waste management plans, innovative technologies in management and circular economy. The results indicate that, despite legislative advances, the implementation of sustainable practices still faces challenges, such as the lack of infrastructure and public awareness. The study concludes that integration between government, companies and the population is essential to achieve a sustainable model, reducing environmental impacts and promoting economic development in harmony with environmental sustainability.
