ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY: ETHICAL, BIOETHICAL AND LEGAL PERSPECTIVES
Abstract
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medicine and Dentistry is rapidly expanding, promising improvements in diagnostic accuracy, treatment personalization, and care efficiency. However, the adoption of these technologies brings with it a range of ethical and bioethical challenges. This article explores the fundamental bioethical principles, deontology, and professional codes of ethics applicable to the use of AI in clinical contexts, discussing potential benefits, risks, and the responsibilities of healthcare professionals. The aim is to provide a solid theoretical foundation for the ethical and responsible application of AI in healthcare, highlighting the importance of robust policies and guidelines to guide its implementation, based on databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Despite the remarkable advances AI brings to Dentistry and Medicine, its use presents considerable ethical challenges, particularly regarding privacy, transparency, bias mitigation, and equity in access. To ensure that benefits outweigh risks, a rigorous ethical evaluation and continuous updates to codes of ethics are essential.
