Abstract

The article analyzes the current state and prospects for the development of specialized beef cattle farming in Russia as of the end of 2024. The authors note that, despite the growth in beef production and consumption, the industry faces systemic problems: a steady reduction in the cattle population, critically low profitability, import dependence, and a lack of investment. Based on Rosstat data and industry statistics, key trends are identified: a 4% reduction in total livestock, an increase in imports to a record 300 thousand tons, while both exports and domestic consumption are growing. As a solution, a set of measures is proposed, including the allocation of beef cattle farming as a separate industry, increased state support, incentives for small-scale farming, and a revision of customs policy to ensure the country’s food security.
