Abstract

This study applies Porter’s Diamond Model to examine and compare the competitive advantages of Dangote Cement Plc and Flutterwave in Nigeria. We analyze six determinants (factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries, strategy/structure and rivalry, government, and chance) using recent industry data and reports (2022–2025). Dangote Cement’s strengths include abundant local resources, large-scale plants, and protective policies, but it faces high energy and logistics costs. Flutterwave leverages Nigeria’s large, young, and digitally connected population and growing diaspora remittances, yet it must navigate regulatory uncertainty and intense fintech competition. The analysis finds that both firms’ competitiveness would benefit from improved national infrastructure and cohesive policy, highlighting the interplay between Nigeria’s manufacturing and fintech sectors in the global economy.
