APPROACHES OF THE POLITICAL LEADERSHIP OF THE PRC TO THE PRODUCTION AND INTRODUCTION OF MAIN BATTLE TANKS (USING THE EXAMPLE OF THE TYPE 99 MBT AND ITS MODERNIZATIONS)
Abstract
This article analyzes the role of armored forces as the main striking force of the PLA ground forces, despite growing anti-tank threats. It focuses on organizational innovations (the combined armored battalion) and technical modernization using the Type 99 main battle tank as an example. It examines its key characteristics, fire control systems, active protection, and integration with the BeiDou navigation system. It also describes the deployment of these tanks across operational areas, large-scale combat training exercises, and the development prospects for China’s armored force.
