Abstract

This study is motivated by a radical restructuring of the global economy, which is transitioning from universal globalization to an era of strategic fragmentation. The emerging geo-economic reality is characterized not only by the growing influence of regional alliances but also by the active dismantling of decades-old global production and supply chains that served as the foundation of international trade. The principles of free trade are being replaced by strategies of “economic security” and sovereignty reinforcement, manifesting in enhanced protectionist measures, technological competition, and de-risking policies. For the Russian business community, situated at the epicenter of these transformations and subjected to large-scale sanction pressure, these challenges are of vital importance. This underscores the critical necessity not merely for situational adaptation, but for a fundamental reorganization of the very foundations of business modeling. Under these new conditions, the traditional priority of operational efficiency and cost minimization–effective in a predictable environment–gives way to the necessity of ensuring profound strategic resilience and high adaptability. It is precisely the ability to anticipate crises, absorb shocks, and reconfigure that becomes the key determinant of long-term competitiveness. The primary aim of this work is to bridge the disjunction between traditional conceptions of sustainable development and the demands of a new, unstable reality. We seek to develop both a theoretical foundation and practical tools that enable Russian companies to reconsider their strategic planning through the lens of an expanded concept of resilience, essential for operating within a fragmented economic system characterized by a high level of risk. As the methodological foundation of the research, systems analysis is employed, allowing for the examination of a company as a complex system within a dynamic environment, alongside a structural-functional approach to assess the interrelations between its elements. For analyzing specific conditions, methods of comparative analysis of international adaptation practices and situational analysis–focusing on the unique challenges facing Russia–are utilized. The final stage involves the development of alternative development pathways based on the constructed scenarios.
