Abstract

This study aimed to present a set of findings related to the phenomenon of (the null element in the morphological structure), to gather its scattered manifestations in the chapters of Arabic morphology, and to highlight the disagreement among morphologists concerning its effects. One of the most important results revealed by the research is that the null element exists in the morphological structure as well as in the perceived, actual morphological structure. The null element in the structure is due to wisdom and secret rather than being accidental. Some cases of the null element cause disagreement among morphologists; some affirm its existence, while others deny it. Among the most important reasons for the null element in the morphological structure are: heaviness, redundancy, fear of ambiguity, and avoidance of theoretical inconsistency, etc. Received: 19 November 2025 /Accepted: 29 December 2025 /Published: January 2026
