Role of Edtech Tools in Personalized Learning Ecosystems
Abstract
Educational technology is a rapid expansion in the sphere of educational technology that significantly reshaped modern learning environments, particularly by enabling personalized learning approaches. This paper investigates the role of EdTech tools in the development and maintenance of personalized learning environments based on the needs, preferences, and learning paths of individual students. Drawing upon existing theories such as the Technology Acceptance Model, Self-Determination Theory, Learning Analytics, Universal Design for Learning, and the ecosystem theory, this study develops an integrated conceptual framework for understanding the role of EdTech tools as techno-pedagogical enablers of personalization. The review of literature reveals the conceptual difficulties of the learning ecosystem and personalized learning, mostly manifested through fragmented frameworks, shallow perspectives on the ecosystem level aspects, and insufficient consideration of motivational or institutional elements. The proposed framework illustrates that effective personalization is not achieved through individual digital tools but is realized through the combination of adaptive technology, student performance, data-supported decision making, pedagogical alignment, and institutional commitment. The study contributes to the theoretical clarity of personalization by positioning relevant aspects as a systems-level determinant of student autonomy, envisioning, and diverse learning pathways. Expected implications for educators, institutions, and policymakers include the need for unified digital infrastructures, teacher qualification improvement, and responsible data usage. The conceptual understanding of personalized learning environments will serve as a foundation for further empirical research into personalized learning through technology.
