Abstract

The development of digital technologies is causing education to change quickly. Among these, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a crucial instrument in higher education by revolutionising curriculum design, teaching, learning, assessment, and administrative procedures. This study examines the theoretical foundations, applications, opportunities, and challenges of AI integration in higher education. AI-driven tools, including adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring systems, automated assessment and learning analytics, support personalized, learner-centered education. Personalised, learner-centred education is supported by AI-driven tools such as intelligent tutoring programs, adaptive learning systems, automated assessment, and learning analytics The study also emphasises how educators' roles as mentors, facilitators and moral judges are changing. AI presents ethical questions about data privacy, algorithmic bias, equity and transparency even as it increases productivity, engagement, accessibility and data-driven insights. Over-reliance on AI and unequal access could undermine human values in education. Human-centered, ethical, and responsible AI.
