Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of air circulation comfort in rented house buildings in a densely populated area of the Duku Block, Cibubur. The main problem raised is the limited natural ventilation due to building density which has an impact on reducing the quality of life and health of residents. The research method used is quantitative descriptive through physical measurements (temperature, humidity, wind speed) and a qualitative approach through architectural observation and questionnaires to residents in two different locations, namely Kontrakan Pinang II and Kontrakan Sirah Bodeng. The results showed that the layout of the location did not affect the air circulation as much as the design and presence of openings in the building. Rents with passive designs, such as the use of transparent roofs and unobstructed ventilation, have a better level of comfort. On the contrary, the limited opening and highdensity of furniture and the number of occupants cause the space to become stuffy, so the occupants are very dependent on mechanical aids such as fans and air conditioners. This study recommends design improvements through the optimization of cross ventilation and the addition of strategic openingsto improve thermal comfort in rental residences.
