Abstract

This study assesses the contribution of technology-based training in improving secondary education in Zanzibar. Although various government and donor-supported initiatives, such as ZISP, KOICA, and GNTZ, have been introduced to enhance teachers’ use of ICT in teaching Science, Mathematics, and English, many trained teachers still struggle to integrate ICT effectively in their classroom practices. The study adopted a descriptive research design and used primary data collected through a quantitative approach. A total of 107 secondary school teachers who had received ICT integration training participated in the study. Data were analysed using SmartPLS (v4). The findings reveal statistically significant relationships between teacher training and teacher attitude, as well as between teacher attitude and the use of ICT in teaching and learning. The results also show a significant association between the availability of ICT facilities and their actual use in classroom instruction. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the government increase the availability of ICT facilities in secondary schools to enhance effective ICT integration. Additionally, regular monitoring should be conducted to ensure that teachers who receive ICT integration training apply the acquired skills in their day-to-day teaching activities
