Abstract

Magnetorheological (MR) fluids offer an exclusive advantage in suspension systems by adapting their viscosity in real time when exposed to magnetic fields. However, maintaining steady yield stress and performance over time remains a challenge, especially in compact systems like those used in two-wheelers. This study introduces a cohesive approach to address this issue by combining specially formulated MR fluids improved with additives and the use of nonlinear negative stiffness components in damper design. Experimental and MATLAB-based analyses show that these combined methods significantly enhance the yield stress by an average of 24.2%, leading to better damping control, improved dependability, and an extended lifespan of the suspension system. These findings present a hopeful way for developing smarter, long-lasting, and more efficient suspension technologies in automotive applications.
