Abstract

Nowon Station(蘆原驛) in the Joseon Dynasty is now the symbol of Nowon-gu(蘆原區). When Nowon-gu was created in 1988, the name Nowon(蘆原) was used. However, recently, criticism has been raised that Nowon's name was wrong. According to various maps and records made during the Joseon Dynasty, Nowon Station was located on the west side of Jungnang-river(中浪川). The key point is that we are looking at Nowon Station in the Joseon Dynasty. Nowon Station in Nowon-gu is a product of the Goryeo Dynasty. During the Goryeo Dynasty, Nowon Station was the main base of Jungnang- river transportation route. During the Goryeo Dynasty, Nowon Station was located in Sanggye-dong(上溪洞), Nowon-gu. With the founding of Joseon, it moved to the west of Jungnang-river. However, the cultivated land to manage Nowon Station was still located in Sanggye-dong. A station village(院村) was formed in Sanggye-dong, serving as a center for transportation and agriculture.
