Abstract

With the development of machine translation, the use of machine-translated output is increasing and more widespread. For informational purposes, a raw machine translation may be sufficient; however, in cases where the text and content are of higher significance, post-editing is required, i. e., the machine translation should be reviewed, corrected, and improved according to a certain objective. In cases where only a comprehensible and acceptable machine translation is required, light post-editing should be performed, while in cases where the machine translation must be of publishable quality, full post-editing should be performed. The purpose of this article is to introduce readers to Latvian equivalents of post-editing terms. The article explains post-editing, provides a more precise definition of post-editing, and outlines the various types of post-editing. At the same time, differences in the type classifications and naming arising from scientific literature have also been examined, and other related terms, without which post-editing research would be inconceivable, have been explained. By addressing the ITTEA (Sub-Commission for Information Technology, Telecommunication and Electronics Terminology) of the Terminology Commission of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Latvian terms such as pēcrediģētājs, pirmsrediģētājs, pilna pēcrediģēšana, and vienkāršota pēcrediģēšana (in English, correspondingly post-editor, pre-editor, full post-editing, and light post-editing) have been approved.
