Effects of Pneumatic Resistance and Small-Equipment Training on Sarcopenia, Stress, and Depression in Older Women
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of pneumatic resistance exercise and small equipment resistance exercise on sarcopenia, stress, and depression in older women. A total of 23 women aged 65 years or older from the C region were recruited using convenience sampling and assigned to the HUR group (n = 13) or the small equipment group (n = 10). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, two-way repeated measures analysis of variance, and paired t-tests. The results showed no significant differences between groups in changes in sarcopenia or stress. However, significant improvements were observed in the pneumatic resistance exercise group in the depression subscales of cognitive decline and decreased activity, as well as feelings of unhappiness. Overall, these findings suggest that pneumatic resistance exercise may serve as a potential intervention strategy for reducing depression in older women.
