LEVELING CREATIVE THINKING ABILITY OF PROSPECTIVE MATHEMATICS TEACHERS IN SOLVING MATHEMATICS PROBLEM
Abstract
Mathematical creative thinking is an important skill that a person must have in order to process the information given in solving a problem. Prospective mathematics teachers who have an understanding of creative thinking will later, when they become teachers, be able to apply or design creative learning in the classroom. However, several studies have revealed that prospective mathematics teacher students are not yet able to think creatively in solving a given problem. The purpose of this study is to describe the problem solving of prospective mathematics teachers in solving creative thinking problems in terms of their level of creative thinking ability. The research approach used is a qualitative research approach. Data collection methods included tests and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that “very creative” subjects were able to meet the indicators of fluency, flexibility, and novelty in problem solving. ‘Creative’ subjects were able to meet the indicators of fluency and flexibility. “Less creative” subjects met the indicator of fluency. The “not creative” subjects did not meet all the indicators of creative thinking.
