Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of Master’s Programmes in Bilingual Education (MBEs) in Spain through a SWOT analysis to address the training needs of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) teachers. Using qualitative data collected from directors and coordinators of MBEs, the study identifies key internal strengths, such as comprehensive and practical training that develop core CLIL teacher competences, and external opportunities like curriculum innovation and international collaboration. The data analysis also highlights internal weaknesses, including limited emphasis on interpersonal and collaborative competences, and external threats such as fluctuating educational policies and increased competition from similar programmes. The findings underline the need for MBEs to enhance curriculum alignment, integrate advanced educational technologies, and foster partnerships to remain sustainable and relevant. The study concludes that MBEs hold significant potential to bridge gaps in CLIL teacher training by offering structured, high-quality professional development pathways.
