THE ROLE OF FUNCTIONAL INTERHEMISPHERIC ASYMMETRY IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE EMOTIONAL SPHERE IN LOCAL BRAIN INJURIES
Abstract
The article examines the characteristics of emotional and personality disturbances in patients with focal lesions of the left and right cerebral hemispheres. The analysis highlights evidence supporting the dominant role of the right hemisphere in the perception, recognition, and expression of emotions – particularly negative ones – whereas the left hemisphere is primarily associated with positive emotional regulation. The issue of functional hemispheric asymmetry is discussed within the framework of the neuropsychology of emotions, emphasizing the need for further research in this domain
