Abstract
The article discusses the possibilities of applying the Tomatis method in psychological and pedagogical development of communicative and speech activities in young children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We provide a case study of comprehensive support for twins diagnosed with ASD. The article presents the results of a diagnostic study of the subjective characteristics of communication in the two children. Conclusions are made about the necessity of forming a family-communication environment as a crucial condition for the communicative and speech development of twin children diagnosed with ASD. The relevance of this issue is due to its limited study. The Tomatis method is widely used in psychological practice of services, but we found no published data on the application of the method in the development of communicative and speech activities in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and its effectiveness. The aim of this work is to study the possibilities of the Tomatis method in the development of communicative and speech activities in twin children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). To achieve this, a diagnostic assessment of the communicative and speech activity of twin children with ASD was conducted; a correctional program using the Tomatis method was tested, aimed at developing the communicative and speech activity of twin children with ASD, and an evaluation of the effectiveness of this program was carried out. The authors based their work on the assumption that the use of the Tomatis method allows for implementation of the current and potential capabilities of communication and speech activities in twin children with ASD. Research methods: For diagnosing the forms of communication, we used the methodology developed by M. I. Lisina, along with play activities with participation of an adult. To study the history of the twin children, we conducted an analysis of documents provided by parents and doctors from our clinic. For corrective work with the children, we chose the audio-stimulation method developed by A. Tomatis. The main results of our research are qualitative and quantitative data obtained from the application of the Tomatis method in the development of communicative and speech activity in twin children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The results of the study confirmed our hypothesis that the use of the Tomatis method allows for the realisation of the current and potential capabilities of communicative and speech activity in twin children with ASD. The tested program demonstrated its effectiveness in developing communicative and speech activities in children with ASD and the appropriateness of including the Tomatis method in corrective and developmental work. The comprehensive efforts of the specialists at our clinic, using the Tomatis method, led to significant improvements in the communicative and speech development of twin children with ASD. To enhance the effectiveness of work aimed at developing communicative and speech activity in twin children with ASD, a developmental family speech environment was organised.
