En busca del rostro perdido. Retratos contemporáneos en el cine de Brasil y Argentina
Abstract
The article aims to analyze a series of documentaries from Argentina and Brazil based on two key notions: face and portrait. If the face occupied a prominent place in the history of the genre of the portrait, the main objective of the article is to explore how it is approached in contemporary times. In Diário de uma busca (Flávia Castro, 2010), 33 (Kiko Gifman, 2002) and El silencio es un cuerpo que cae (Agustina Comedi, 2018), the face is no longer conceived as the surface on which the identity of the subject is expressed, but as a space to be searched and unraveled. These documentaries, directed by sons and daughters who aim to trace the faces of their absent fathers or mothers, function as portraits that address the historical, political and generational nature of faces.
