Abstract

In this study, new DNA-assisted records of water mites (Hydrachnidia) collected from Cyprus are presented. In total, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) DNA barcodes were generated from 17 specimens, corresponding morphologically to seven species. Five species, i.e., Lebertia fimbriata Thor, 1899, L. variolata Gerecke, 2009, Sperchon papillosus Thor, 1901, Torrenticola baueri Bader & Sepasgozarian, 1987, and Atractides concavus Pešić & Smit, 2021, are reported as new to the water mite fauna of Cyprus. Additionally, one species, Torrenticola cypriotica sp. nov., is described as new to science.
