Development of an Integrated Denture Job-Order and Appointment Scheduling System
Abstract
The Integrated Denture Job-Order and Appointment Scheduling System addresses inefficiencies in a dental laboratory that relies on paper-based logbooks, spreadsheets, and ad-hoc communication, which cause errors, scheduling conflicts, and delayed outputs. This web-based system digitizes order intake, centralizes job-order records in a MySQL database, and automates appointment assignment, task allocation, deadline tracking, and notifications to stakeholders, thereby reducing misplacement of records and manual workload. Developed using PHP with the Laravel framework and JavaScript for interactive features, the project follows user-centered design with LO-FI and HI-FI prototypes and wireframes created in Canva to refine usability. Intended users include lab technicians, clinic staff, and administrators. Evaluation through functional testing and the System Usability Scale (SUS) demonstrated accurate and efficient job-order processing, improved record organization, faster communication, consistent performance, and high user acceptability. Minor interface enhancement suggestions were noted and advanced analytical reporting remains partially achieved. Overall, the system meets core requirements, improves workflow, minimizes errors from manual processes, and is recommended for deployment with user training. Future enhancements may include enhanced reporting, inventory monitoring, SMS notifications, dashboard analytics, and mobile integration. Limitations included restricted access to live clinic data during testing and a small sample size for usability evaluation and timing constraints.
