Abstract

Abstract V5115 Sagittarii was a very fast nova ( t 2 = 7 days) from a massive white dwarf (1.2 M ⊙ ). Our 0.8–5.0 μ m spectrum from 19 days after discovery shows numerous Fe ii lines and weak, just emerging He i emission and falls clearly within the Fe ii -type nova classification. At this epoch, the nova had sufficient excitation that N i features were plentiful but Na i emission was absent and only the brightest C i features were detectable.
