Abstract

After distinguishing the concepts of good reputation and privacy, presented as fundamental rights in c. 220, the first part of the article examines the respect for good reputation and privacy in two sacraments. This includes, on the one hand, the increasing requests today for the removal of entries from the baptismal register and, on the other, the respect for the fundamental right to privacy in the administration of the sacrament of reconciliation—a matter that remains current. The second part addresses two more technical issues. The first concerns the obligation to maintain secrecy in the administration of justice and its impact on the provisions of c. 220; the second concerns the protection of personal data, following the entry into force of the European Union regulation on the subject (GDPR) in 2018.
