Abstract

This paper investigates how the comparison of inequality or equality was expressed in the Caribbean French proto-creole during the 18th century. The aim is to describe the different ways used to express the different registers of comparison (superiority, inferiority, equativity, similarity) in the context of the emergence of the Caribbean French creole, through several texts written in this area and era. To this end, we list linguistic forms and structures used in four selected ancient texts. Then we consider different hypohesis in terms of emergence, system and dynamics.
