Abstract

This issue examines the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on Russia's educational system, with a focus on schoolteachers. Guest editors Dina Gusejnova and Dorine Schellens from Project 2022 (Eastern Academic Alliance) curated this issue. Researchers from OVD-Info analyze the persecution of antiwar teachers and the presence of state propaganda in schools. Sociologists document how teachers navigate this authoritarian shift by employing “doublethink” to survive. Finally, Asya Shteyn investigates the failure of the liberal reforms of the 1990s and proposes frameworks for post-authoritarian reconstruction.
