The Limits of Economic Adaptation
Abstract
This issue examines the structural boundaries of Russia’s wartime economic model. Tatiana Mitrova analyzes how the oil sector has transitioned from a driver of development to a mechanism for short-term fiscal stabilization. Stephen Wegren explores how systemic greed and corruption in the agrifood sector undermine food safety and institutional integrity. Fabian Burkhardt et al. document the massive, predatory redistribution of assets to regime cronies, which erodes long-term property rights. Finally, Sebastian Hoppe discusses how personalized brokerage by regime insiders attempts to compensate for an exhausted and volatile resource model.
