Teaching freshers information theory: Shannon’s theorem for linear codes on the BEC
Abstract
In this paper on information theory education, an outline of a new course for first year students at the University of Cambridge is described. The coding theorem is derived for the special case of the Binary Erasure Channel using random binary linear block coding.
