Abstract

Summary Diagenesis plays a crucial role in sedimentary rocks, particularly in carbonate strata. Recent advancements in LA-ICP-MS in-situ U/Pb age dating and clumped isotopes have improved the understanding of diagenetic processes. A study in Saudi Arabia applied these techniques to five stratigraphic units, providing absolute age constraints, precipitation temperatures, and parent fluid composition for key diagenetic phases. The results refined the timing of dolomitization, calcite cementation, and hydrocarbon migrations, and highlighted the potential of linking diagenetic phases to regional tectonostratigraphic context and paleoclimates, with significant implications for rock type prediction and hydrocarbon migration.
