Abstract

Summary The study focused on bulk geochemical characterization and microscopic examination of core samples collected from the Najmah Fm. with the aim to address uncertainties regarding the kerogen/bitumen distribution that emerged from the findings of past studies, link the observations to the development of organic matter porosity and the uncertainty around it and provide input to the selection of sweet spots for the unconventional development of this resource. Understanding the geochemical properties and depositional environment, of the Najmah kerogen system is essential for optimizing exploration and production strategies in this emerging unconventional play.
