An Analogue for Integrating Mechanical Stratigraphy in Fractured Carbonate Reservoir Models
Abstract
Summary Models of fractured carbonate reservoirs frequently underrepresent the role of mechanical stratigraphy in controlling fracture development and reservoir performance. Mechanical layering governs fracture distribution, intensity, and connectivity; when these controls are ignored, models fail to capture the permeability heterogeneity that dictates fluid flow during primary depletion and enhanced oil recovery (EOR), thereby reducing predictive reliability and increasing uncertainty in reservoir management.
