High-Resolution Sequence Stratigraphic Framework of Middle Jurassic Carbonate Reservoir; Insightful Workflow to Enhance Reservoir Modeling
Abstract
Summary Optimizing 3D reservoir facies modelling requires a detailed sedimentological and sequence stratigraphic workflow ‘that uses a high-resolution sequence stratigraphic framework benefiting reservoir characterization and 3D geological modelling (unpubl. results).’ ‘Such models must be sufficiently robust to forecast production performance, to guide reservoir management, to optimize production, and to increase the recovery factor (Magalhaes et al. 2020). In this study, a core-based sequence stratigraphic framework provided robust lateral and vertical depositional environments, by developing a conceptual depositional model of 6 distinct facies distributed across 11 high frequency sequences covering the entire reservoir interval. The resultant high-frequency framework successfully managed to guide facies and permeability prediction of the un-cored wells, and ultimately, assisted in building an improved 3D depositional related environmental architecture facies model.
