Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming wildlife conservation by enabling faster, more accurate, and scalable approaches to species monitoring, habitat mapping, and behavioral analysis. Through computer vision, AI can automatically detect and classify animals in millions of camera trap images, while acoustic models identify species through their vocalizations in complex environments. Satellite and drone imagery integrated with AI supports habitat assessment and anti-poaching surveillance. Digital twin ecosystems offer dynamic simulations for predicting environmental changes and guiding proactive interventions. Despite challenges such as limited datasets, interpretability issues, and ethical concerns, AI is becoming an essential tool in conservation science. When deployed transparently and inclusively, AI enhances human capacity to respond effectively to the biodiversity crisis and supports long-term ecological stewardship.
