Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings has revolutionized learning experiences while simultaneously raising critical privacy concerns. This chapter examines the complex landscape of AI-driven educational technologies and their implications for student data privacy. As educational institutions increasingly adopt AI-powered learning management systems, personalized tutoring platforms, and predictive analytics tools, the collection, processing, and storage of sensitive student information have become paramount concerns. This comprehensive analysis explores current privacy challenges, regulatory frameworks including FERPA and GDPR, technological solutions such as differential privacy and federated learning, and emerging best practices for protecting student privacy while maintaining AI system effectiveness. The chapter presents a balanced perspective on navigating the tension between educational innovation and privacy protection.
