Abstract

The pharmaceutical sector is at the brink of major revolution resulting from advanced manufacturing technologies. They include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, robotics technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) and process analytical technology. Together, they have transformed old manufacturing methods based on labor to techniques driven by data. This transition also increases the quality of the product produced and makes it more consistent, meeting regulatory requirements. This chapter clarifies the ideas of intelligent manufacturing systems in pharmaceutical companies, their structures and their applications. These systems not only help prevent human error but also accelerate the process of developing new products. Finally, this chapter suggests directions for future work and discusses tactics to manage the challenges of Pharma 4.0. It offers new methods for future digital transformation to be conducted and applied in the pharmaceutical industry.
