Abstract

Rapid urbanization has transformed cities into major centers of economic activity while intensifying environmental pressures. Urban areas consume large amounts of energy and resources and generate significant greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and air pollution. These conditions contribute to climate change, urban heat island effects, biodiversity loss, and declining public health. As cities continue to expand, the need for sustainable urban development becomes increasingly urgent. The concept of green cities has therefore emerged as an important framework for addressing environmental challenges while maintaining economic vitality and social well-being. Green cities emphasize sustainable infrastructure, efficient energy use, green spaces, responsible waste management, and environmentally conscious urban planning. Integrating ecological principles into urban governance supports climate resilience and improves quality of life while helping cities remain livable and environmentally balanced.
